MORE VIETNAM TERMINALS TO BE INVESTED FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS

Seeing the potential and important roles of sea transportation in-country economic development, recently, Vinamarine submitted to the Ministry of Transportation a more detailed proposal for a master plan for 2021-2030, toward 2030.

Specifically, the proposal mentioned the area of Cai Mep – Thi Vai deepwater where many terminals have recently improved their throughput to receive big vessels up to 200,000 DWT. The channel Cai Mep – Thi Vai becomes the main channel for Vietnam gateway for many international routes shipping lines giving Vietnam traders or manufacturers better competitive advantages. Both Hochiminh city and BRVT have been working with both local and foreign investors for new terminals to catch up with the demand of import/export cargo locally and international transshipment cargo, like Cai Mep Ha, Cai Mep Logistics Hub and especially – Saigon International Transshipment Port proposed by Saigon Port and MSC, the biggest container shipping lines in Can Gio area at the mouth of Cai Mep river opposite site of terminals in Baria Vung tau.

We hope that the government also supports to build of sufficient roads and bridges to make a connection between these potential terminals and the cargo hinterland in time to get the most capability of the whole network and make Vietnam seaports more competitive in the Asian region and wider.
