We are in the mid of February to learn that the difficulties keep going for a few months more. With the inflation in many parts of the world due to low demand and consequences of the Russia-Ukraine war, Vietnam’s import and export goods have been reduced significantly compared with the same period last year. How will we work against the difficulties, and any opportunities for development?
In shipping, the difference between 2021 and early 2022, the container boxes are surplus against the demand of cargo, and many blank sailing to ports or omitted to save cost to carriers. A lot of empty boxes are piling up at ports and ICDs idling long for pickup in Cai Mep Thi Vai, HCM City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Hai Phong, and so on. Before the Lunar new year, many factories in Vietnam had to allow workers to come home earlier, and some had to cut jobs. Some factories now have to take orders at lower prices for maintaining the business. The same difficulties to trucking companies with fewer shipments. However, on the optimistic side, this year, Vietnam importers/exporters will enjoy lower contract freight rates instead of high spot rates to secure the slots on vessels. The trend of “China + 1” would help Vietnam get more chances to foreign investors/buyers/suppliers for new sources of materials and consumption.
Therefore, in difficulties, there is a will then there is a way. All parties will have to work hand in hand with more reasonable expenses to help each other survive and develop. With the function of a link in the supply chain, we are acting as a bridge between users and carriers to customize the efficiency of transportation from the warehouse of suppliers to the hand of final consumers.
