WILL GREEN ENERGY BE A GOOD OPTION FOR TRANSPORTATION?
Recently, many countries, including Vietnam, follow the trend to use green energy to reduce carbon dioxin over the world. It is a great effort to be promoted. However, is it suitable for transportation, especially water transportation?
Let’s discuss water transportation which occupies nearly 3% of global carbon emission to see the big impact of green fuel for its operation instead other land transportation. Some big ocean carriers like Maersk, CMA-CGM, and Hyundai have tested to use of methanol, ammoniac, hydro, or biomethane for their fleets as part of a plan of reduction in green-house effect. However, the first obstacle is the source of supply with fewer suppliers than normal fossil fuel providers. The second obstacle is the storage of fuel on board with the complicated system, and the third one is safety, especially for ammoniac is known as a toxic gas to human beings.
With current technology and resource, the journey of finding alternative fuel sources to replace fossil fuels is still facing a lot of difficulties and obstacles. “Will it be succeeded?” is still an open question.
